Digital Arts and Media

Digital arts and media is creating art via software on a computer. This allows extra room for error and a huge range of tools that wouldn’t be available through painting in real life. Digital art and media are usually taken by students who are wishing to be the “creative level designer” in the gaming industry however it has other uses too, for example, it is heavily used in television shows and films. You can pursue many careers with knowledge in digital arts and media (DAM). The entry requirements for a level designer are a graphic design degree, a foundation level in arts and design and 5 GCSEs (A*-C grade). Other jobs require specific requirements, for example, someone who would like to use Digital arts and media to get a job making Anime TV shows you’ll need skills in drawing, using computer animation software, presentation skills, and creativity skills. Website Developers and Designers

The web developers are basically the people who create the components of a website, for example when you press “F12” when on a web page it will open up an “Elements” page, which has been written by the website developers to make the website look and work how it does. If you dig a little deeper you will find the term web designer, which is usually mistaken to be the same thing, however, the web designers are responsible for the looks/aesthetics of the website. The entry requirements for a web designer aren’t generally qualifications but instead a demonstration of the skills you have in Visual Design, UX (user experience), marketing, social media using coding software (HTML and CSS) and using design software like Photoshop and Illustrator. Hardware and Software Engineers

A hardware/software engineer builds/creates software and hardware for computers, for example, Microsoft was created by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. There isn’t really much more to it. Average Salary of Hardware and Software Engineers: ·                Software engineer - £37469 (can be upwards of £61000) ·          Hardware Engineer - £33716 (can be upwards of £50000) To be a software developer you must have strong programming skills, 5 GCSEs (A*-C grade), advanced mathematics knowledge and understand software development and engineering. A software engineer doesn’t have much of a workload, working on average at about 40 hours per week. However, some assignments may be prioritised meaning you’ll have to spend extra time on them. A brief description of cyber-security would be that its different hardware, software, and processes made to protect data, networks, and computers. It is always done through technology hence the name “cyber” security. Some jobs in cyber-security include Information Security officers, Forensic computer analysts and an IT Security Engineer. The average salaries for these jobs are: ·          Information Security Officer - £42630 (can be upwards of £79000) ·          Forensic Computer Analysts - £56310 (can be upwards of £89283) ·          IT Security Engineer - £25467 (can be upwards of £50000)              These jobs fit the criteria for multiple reasons however I will list and explain the main ones. Programming is the “process of writing programs on a computer” (taken from Google Dictionary), there are many different languages and forms of programming. Programming is usually done in notepad or notepad++. The average salaries for jobs that involve programming are: ·          Programmers – £52500 (a low of £42500 and a high of £62500) The entry requirements for a programmer are 5 GCSE grades (A*-C), 112 points in A Levels (general studies not accepted) or 112 points in BTEC national (merit or distinction). A degree in computer science is also necessary as you must know advanced programming languages.   People expect programmers to work around 60 hours a week, and it’s still believed that they do, however it is a myth.
